Kumaon is a rare black tea with a light floral aroma and a distinct taste of cocoa flavoring with notes of caramel and a creamy texture. It is grown in the mountainous Himalayan regions of India and in the 1990’s, the Indian government initiated a program to revive tea growth as a way to create rural livelihood opportunities.
Like other Black teas, Kumaon has strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and heart healthy properties.
What is the difference between Kumaon black tea and Kumaon white tea? The difference is how they’re processed. Kumaon black tea leaves are fully oxidized which gives them a darker color while the processing to produce the white tea leaves involves allowing the leaves to wither and dry naturally, with minimal oxidation.
